Galatians 2 | Eric Roberts

Updated: Sep 30, 2024

In Galatians 2, Paul recounts his journey to Jerusalem, where he met with the leaders of the church, confirming that his message to the Gentiles was aligned with theirs. Paul stresses the importance of defending the truth of the gospel and recounts how he confronted Peter in Antioch for acting hypocritically by distancing himself from Gentile believers out of fear of the Jewish Christians. The chapter highlights justification by faith in Jesus Christ rather than by observing the law.

Highlights:

1. Paul's defense of the gospel's unity: Paul met with church leaders in Jerusalem, emphasizing that his mission was recognized by those who were pillars of the church.

2. Confronting hypocrisy: Paul confronted Peter for separating himself from Gentile believers, highlighting that unity in Christ should surpass cultural traditions.

3. Justification by faith: Paul emphasizes that we are justified by faith in Christ, not by the works of the law, pointing out that following the law cannot bring salvation.

Life Applications:

1. Stand for the truth of the gospel: Like Paul, be willing to defend the message of Christ, even if it means correcting others when they stray from the truth.

2. Avoid hypocrisy: Treat all believers equally, regardless of their background or cultural differences, ensuring our actions align with the gospel.

3. Live by faith: Remember that our salvation comes through faith in Jesus, not through our own efforts. Trust in His finished work rather than trying to earn God’s approval.
